Nelson Lane Improvement Project

When the City of Lincoln, California was looking to widen a 3300 foot section of Nelson Lane and replace Markham Ravine Bridge on an accelerated schedule and an over $8 million budget, they relied upon Frayji Design Group and partnering company Drake Haglan.  Nelson Lane’s two narrow lanes between Highway 65 Bypass and Nicolaus Road lacked shoulders, possessed no turning lanes for safe traffic movements, and had a functionally obsolete bridge that overtopped during floods. The formerly rural road now was thrust into greater prominence due to the completion of the Highway 65 bypass and Nelson Lane becoming the shortest connector to the Lincoln Regional Airport.

Construction for the Nelson Lane project began in late spring 2014 after a rapid pace civil engineering design, land surveying and environmental study period that required close cooperation between team members. In the process, Frayji Design Group helped the City navigate issues with right-of way conflicts with parcel owners, interagency harmonization, consideration of future expansion of the corridor to 6 lanes and ever-changing stormwater and environmental issues.

Now that active construction has begun, Frayji Design Group continues assistance to the City of Lincoln with construction staking, resolving encroachment issues, and responding to contractor concerns. The Nelson Lane Project is expected to be complete in January 2015.
